Nissan Datsun Nationals - Warwick - 6-10th April 2023

Event Background & Format:

The Nissan Datsun Nationals began in 1990 in Queensland and has developed a strong following across the country with subsequent events being held in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. This event has now grown into a National Bi-Annual Celebration of the Nissan Datsun marque incorporating motorsport, car shows and social activities. Past events have included; ZCCQ running events in 2009 & 2015 in Warwick, Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Association Victoria in 2013 at Phillip Island, Sydney Datsun Club in 2017 at Eastern Creek, Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Association Victoria in 2019 at Sandown. Most recently in 2021, the Nissan Datsun Club in South Australia hosted the event at The Bend Motorsport Park which saw ZCCQ take up the mantle again to host the event in 2023.

The Nissan Datsun Nationals [NDN 23] event will follow a similar format as was promoted by ZCCQ in Easter 2015 with Event Registration, Navigation Tours, Show & Shine, and 3-4 days of On Track Motorsport, all based around the Morgan Park Raceway facility in Warwick.

Previous Nissan Datsun Nationals events have attracted participants from almost every state in Australia including from Western Australia, with potential numbers exceeding 150 cars and 200 plus people. The NDN23 event will be centred around the motorsport activities at Morgan Park Raceway, however there is planned to be a number of social events held at venues within Warwick. The entrants will be encouraged to stay local to the event to take full advantage of the atmosphere created by engaging with other Nissan Datsun enthusiasts over the long weekend, some of whom only get together at the NDN events.

The proposed events will include:

MOTORSPORT COMPETITION

1. Utilise the Warwick District Sporting Car Club's Morgan Park Raceway as a base for the event, providing track facilities and some on site camping.

2. Develop a number of on track events based on formats such as; Long & Short Track Sprints, Long & Short Track Regularity Time Trial, Short Track Bent Sprint, TWO Up Driver / Navigator Challenge and depending on the final Motorsport Australia Permit requirements, a couple of other events to add into the mix.

SHOW & SHINE CAR DISPLAY COMPETITION

1. During the 4 day event, 1 day will be set aside for a car show to give the entrants an opportunity to engage with the community and show off their road or track car. This will be a judged show and trophies will be awarded for categories of Nissan Datsun cars including - Classic Original models, Modified but Road Registered models, Modified Track only models, plus a "People's Choice" award judged by the public.

2. The preferred display precinct for this car show will be within Warwick Town Centre. This will ensure the event can be enjoyed by the local public & visitors plus provide local businesses the opportunity to easily engage with the event.

NAVIGATION RUNS

1. The event will be promoting a number Navigation Style runs for participants who are either not competing in motorsport, or have some time off from competing. These runs will enable the entrants to get out and explore the local area and attractions, providing a great contrast to the motorsport side of the event.

2. NDN23 navigation runs will take the form of self-guided maps or scenic drives that are designed to capture the true spirit of the Southern Downs region; be it wineries in Stanthorpe, to the motorsport heritage of Leyburn or Lunch at Queen Mary Falls – plus all the points in between. Entrants will have the opportunity to set their own schedule, or put together their own small group to take in the sights of the Southern Downs Region.

SOCIAL EVENTS

1. A key feature of past Nissan Datsun Nationals has been the social aspect where entrants, family & friends get to mix over good food at good venues. Like the previous ZCCQ organised events, this will be a combination of casual arrangements, through to fully organised evenings where participants can mix & mingle. It's a great opportunity to catch up and often people have not seen each other since the last event.

2. Planned events will include the Welcome Party on the first night, the 'Birthday Party' for the 40th Anniversary of ZCCQ, and the Event Presentation Dinner. All venues are yet to be finalised for 2023.

3. In addition to these planned evenings we have traditionally appointed a local hotel as the 'Event Pub' where all attendees can meet on a casual basis, be it for an informal breakfast, casual lunch, evening meal, or just a catch-up after a day on the track, or a drive in the country.

The 2023 Nissan Datsun Nationals – NDN23 will be an event to remember with visitors from all over Australia, coming to Queensland to "Celebrate their Passion" with all things motoring involving Nissan Datsun cars from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's through to today.
